This talk is for people who feel that they are stuck in a limited, material world, with limited prospects, limited resources, and limited health. In contrast to those feelings of limitation, we are children of God and God is spiritual, limitless. Speaker Alexandre Fischer, a practitioner of Christian Science healing from Pau, France, explains that by understanding more clearly our relationship with God, infinite good, we can learn to drop feelings of limitation, end fear, and see a way forward.

“Practicing litigation law in France and the United States for several years informed Alex’s practice of Christian Science. The law was not just his job, he says, it was his passion. To Alex, being a good lawyer meant exercising the ability to think precisely and feeling a desire to help others get out of trouble.
During his years as a lawyer, his interest in Christian Science grew. At first, he was impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions, but as he dug deeper, he found a profound spirituality. He used to believe that religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this spirituality, the more he found that one’s relationship with God requires critical thinking to understand spiritual concepts. These concepts can in turn be applied to one’s life to bring healing.
Gradually, he gave up his law practice to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner. Alex still works to help others “get out of trouble,” that is, to overcome a sense of limitation and to find freedom.
Alex discovered that Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless, to be open to see the world as spiritually-based and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. Christian Science helps us understand our relationship with God, infinite good, more clearly. Its teachings help us see Christ Jesus’ message in a non-dogmatic way, bringing healing, harmony and freedom to our life.
Through healing and lecturing, Alex works to enable others to find this same freedom.”

“I’ve always loved people—their life stories, struggles, successes. I regularly meet individuals actively cultivating their spiritual life. And I love sharing Science and Health with them!
I see much of my own journey in these seekers. A few years into my career in the mental health field, despite having achieved professional success, I felt empty inside. I had everything I’d been taught would make me happy but instead was dissatisfied and restless, yearning for something deeper. That’s when I was introduced to Christian Science through Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by religious reformer, Mary Baker Eddy. In it, I found a shared sacred space with the author and experienced a profound sense of coming home.
Some years later, I was compelled to leave my psychotherapy practice to focus completely on my Christian Science healing practice. It was an imperative demand from within me—I had to be true to myself. “His word is in my heart like a fire…I am weary of holding it in.”* I needed to practice in the way I understood would be most helpful.
Since then, sharing the revolutionary message contained in the pages of Science and Health has been the cornerstone of my life. I helped oversee the worldwide activity of bringing the book to a wider public audience. I also managed a special project established to respond to the growing interest from healthcare professionals in learning more about Christian Science. I’ve lectured to the public in a variety of settings and venues, from prisons to professional healthcare audiences and everything in between. I love all of it!
What a special opportunity Christian Science lectures provide for opening the way for the spiritual seeker in all of us to learn, grow, and heal. I welcome all inquiries!”

Speaker Bruce Slawter is a retired U.S. Air Force officer, writer, and travel blogger, who has presented hundreds of talks on the origins of the Bible. During this two-part program, he will share his latest research into the geography, historical context, and archaeology of the Old Testament.
For the first session (April 22), “A Tale of Two Kingdoms,” Bruce will provide a geographical overview and historical timeline for the main events in the Old Testament, a discussion of ongoing debates in Biblical archaeology, and a description of what it’s like to work on a modern dig in the Holy Land.
During the second session (May 13), “The Dead Sea Scrolls Demystified,” Slawter will discuss current theories of how the early scriptural writings of the Israelites came together to form the corpus of the Old Testament, the work of Medieval Jewish scribes who finalized the Hebrew text used in our modern translations, and how the Dead Sea Scrolls bridged the gap in our understanding of both.”
Come to either or both sessions.

Whatever seems to stand between us and the full range of purposeful activity that we would like to have in our lives, the real impediment is not knowing how or where to access our God-given liberty from those things which make us feel vulnerable or victimize or overwhelmed or depressed or anxious.
Speaker Nicole Virgil, a practitioner of Christian Science healing, will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective and will include examples of how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical, emotional, and circumstantial restrictions that are clearly beyond their control so that they may Be Set Free!

“My father was a free-lance church organist, and my parents attended services at almost every different Christian church around New England. Mom was constantly wanting to understand how to practice Christian healing just as Jesus did, and when she started attending Christian Science church services, she found what she was looking for. As a result, I had a wonderful upbringing in Christian Science, which cultivated within me a deep desire for an intimate relationship with God.
Growing up, I studied Christian Science with my mom and music with my dad, and found that both studies were helpful to each other. Christian Science healed performance anxiety, while learning music honed the skills I needed for spiritual practice — skills such as intuition, listening, patience and diligence. Throughout my life, Christian Science and music have always overlapped: After studying opera at music school, I took my one-woman opera review program (That Can’t Be Opera!) on the road, educating audiences about opera by singing Mozart, Puccini, and Menotti. Christian Science guided me through this entrepreneurial endeavor, just as it led me to start soloing in churches as a teenager (which is something I still love to do!) — and I eventually married, started a family with my husband, and entered the public practice of Christian Science so that I can share the deep and precious truths of the Bible’s healing messages for our daily lives.
Today I enjoy raising children, gardening, soloing in church, and witnessing the healing effect of Christian Science in all things. ”

Seeking Reliable Healing Solutions for a Better World?
Today when many are thinking about how to make change in the world for the better, genuine spirituality can make a valuable and unique contribution. Rather than just joining a club or proceeding on blind faith, it can bring us new perspectives of universal Truth and Love, God, that embrace everyone, and bring to light reliable healing solutions even where it might seem like there are none. Come hear Tom McElroy, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, explain more.

“I’ve always loved meeting new people and learning fresh and inspiring ideas. Through my study of Christian Science, I’ve found that a better understanding of God helps me connect with all kinds of people and to appreciate and enjoy the many diverse expressions of divine Life and Love which fill the globe.
It was my interest in different cultures, people, and ideas that led me to study philosophy at university. During my university years, I was also able to participate in a few study-abroad programs which took me to France, Belize, Vietnam, China, and Tibet. I’ve now been to every continent but Antarctica. During these travels I experienced many proofs of God’s ever-present care for His global family.
After graduating from university, I obtained a position as the senior loan officer in charge of a mortgage company’s most active branch. At the same time, I also worked with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department as a volunteer chaplain in men’s, women’s, and youth correctional facilities, giving Christian Science services and one-on-one interviews. These experiences gave me many opportunities to rely on and prove the power of God’s laws of goodness and harmony, which govern all of creation and bring immeasurable benefits to all mankind, even in the most adverse situations. I now devote myself to the full-time public healing ministry of Christian Science. While serving on the Board of Lectureship, I’ve spoken at probation facilities, universities, public schools, churches, and for public service groups — like those serving homeless and at risk youth — as well as in other general public venues. I give lectures in both English and French.”

“American Women in Religion” is an online exhibit celebrating notable and extraordinary American women in religion during National Women’s History Month.
This online panel exhibit helps the public learn about, appreciate, and celebrate the lives, ideas, and accomplishments of exceptional American women in religion. The panels give sketches and details of such women. Included, of course, is Mary Baker Eddy. Though she was described in an important newspaper in 1907 as “the most famous, interesting and powerful woman in America, if not in the world, today,” many people tofsy know little of her and her amazing life and accomplishments.
You can access the exhibit throughout the month of March at www.americanwomeninreligion.com.

To live a life of liberty, Nicole Virgil, a practitioner of Christian Science healing, says that we have to find the nature and substance of liberty, which is given to all. We have to know where to look for the source of liberty—God, good itself, all-inclusive.
This talk will examine liberty from a Biblical perspective; and the speaker will give examples of how people today found their freedom from all kinds of physical, emotional and circumstantial restrictions that seemed clearly beyond their control, until they were set free.

What is our worth? Or our value? What makes us feel really needed in this world? How do we find answers to these questions?
James Shepherd, a practitioner of Christian Science healing from Eugene, Oregon, will present a free talk based on the understanding of God through Christian Science, that will show how this understanding can give us direction in life and help us to realize our God-given purpose, as well as how to find freedom from pain, hatred, loneliness, addiction, mental or physical illness.

“I’ve seen the healing effects of God’s love since I was a youngster, romping through the woods around our home with my three brothers. We had our share of scrapes and bruises which were quickly healed through prayer. We didn’t get sick often, but when we did, we relied on Christian Science for quick healings.
In high school our family moved to a ranch where we had cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, chickens, and turkeys. I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, but realized that serving as a Christian Science healer was the best way I could serve others. So I left the ranch and took up the full-time work of helping others find healing through prayer. That was 30 years ago, and I still love this work as much as ever.
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed being active in many offices in my local Church of Christ, Scientist, and have worked at summer camps for Christian Scientists and their friends. I’ve also shared the message of Love’s transforming power in prison settings and youth detention centers. When my four children were little, I coached or participated in their sports programs. I’ve also found other ways to help in my community, such as by volunteering at a neighborhood church to help cook a free breakfast for those in need.
I love spending time with my family and I enjoy doing almost anything outdoors, from backpacking to doing a little work on the family ranch. But my greatest joy will always be to find, and to help others find, a more tangible sense of God’s love for everyone and how that improves every aspect of our lives.”

Two influences on me that I’ll never forget were the Christian Science Sunday School and a mom who turned to prayer and encouraged me to do the same. These influences showed me something of the reliability of God and spiritual inspiration, and trusting this helped me find my way growing up. Significant healing experiences with relationship and food issues, and violence in the community, were also unforgettable. From this, I got an idea of the many ways that Christian Science can transform lives.
After finishing a doctorate in mathematics, I became a college professor and truly enjoyed teaching. I found that teaching was less about telling students something than facilitating the students’ discoveries of new concepts. There was nothing better than witnessing a reluctant student realize that a previously mystifying concept was actually within reach to anyone.
But the higher promise of Christian Science beckoned me to help people redeem and uplift their lives in a fuller way. When students came to my office for help with calculus, we often found ourselves talking about the joy and excitement of growing spirituality. After just two years at the college, I resigned from my position and began accepting calls as a Christian Science practitioner. I wrote articles for the Christian Science periodicals, was a frequent guest on Sentinel radio, and began advertising my practice in The Christian Science Journal in 2004. My husband and I also started a family.
These days I love working from my home office in the Los Angeles area. I like to see lives transformed by the healing ideas of Christian Science, where we ourselves are helped and, at the same time, find we can help others. My life as a mom has a lot of the same focus. And whether the spiritual ideas apply to health issues, school, social lives, or sports, my three teenagers push me to “keep it real.”
This event was live-streamed on January 8. It’s available for on-demand video replay for 30 days afterwards, at www.christiansciencefairfax.com/lectures.

Christ Jesus’ ministry taught and showed the power of God’s love to overcome injustice, hatred, and disease, yet Jesus never took credit. There is great need for healing in the world today. Hear Mark McCurties, a practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker, share how Christlike humility can help us meet that demand for healing.

“Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve had a deep love for the Bible. When I read about men and women in the Bible overcoming hatred, famine, war, physical disease, and other hardships, their triumphs inspired me. It didn’t matter what the odds were, or what conditions they faced, individuals in the Bible seemed to flourish in adversity based on one common theme, their deep love for God.
Growing up in a Christian Science household, there was another book I loved to read daily: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. The very purpose of her book is to help unlock and reveal the deeper divine meaning and inspiration of the Bible. Together these two books point to the practical healing and saving power of God and its present availability for all mankind. I knew that someday I wanted to share that healing message with the world.
As I grew into adulthood, experiences in the field of education as a summer camp director, outdoor educator, athletics coach, and resident counselor, all helped to develop my understanding and practice of Christian Science. While working with young people, I had multiple opportunities to witness God’s healing power. These examples proved to me that the healing power of Christ is just as alive and relevant today as for the men and women of the Bible. In 2010, with a desire to focus solely on healing through prayer, I went into the full-time public practice of Christian Science.”

Can fear be overcome — even healed — in our lives?
Christian Science speaker and healer Lisa Troseth will speak about how she discovered our strong connection to something bigger than ourselves. Learning to lean on this greater, higher good, we can feel moved to love beyond ourselves—and this frees us from fear, and changes our lives.
___________________________________________
“What should I do with my life?” Lisa asked herself. “I often wondered during my early twenties. I wasn’t sure where I was headed, but I was praying to be of service to humanity. That’s when it occurred to me: If we’re motivated by love in whatever we’re doing, even if our efforts seem small on the surface, then we’ll be living in accord with a power that genuinely makes a difference—the power of God, which the Bible says is Love itself.
At the time, I’d begun to really open my heart to God and was learning from the study of Christian Science that the nature of our divine Creator is infinitely loving and we’re designed to express God’s love in beautiful and unique ways. It’s like each of us, including our daily endeavors, are made to be an artistic tapestry of divine Love.
This idea still inspires me each day to see and treat everyone I meet with love, to acknowledge their God-derived value, beauty, and uniqueness. Christian Science has shown me how letting a truer sense of God’s all-defining love govern how we interact and genuinely care for each other leads the way to useful ideas and purposeful action and improves society. Since my twenties, I’ve seen how these views have led me, and others, in a variety of fruitful endeavors that bring genuine healing where it’s needed most.
“Along the way, I’ve worked with educational non-profits, contributed to community art events, participated in interfaith programs, and served as a Christian Science nurse. I am now in the full-time healing ministry as a Christian Science practitioner and teacher.”

With change being such a constant force in life these days, what can we confidently depend on?
Here Christian Science speaker and healer Leslie Pitts share examples of how a loving, divine presence — available to all — can bring the kind of reliable stability and support one can depend on.
___________________________________________
“It was during high school that the direction of my life changed,” explained Lesley. Although I was raised as a Christian Scientist, it wasn’t until I experienced the joy of helping someone during a youth club outing that I finally understood what it took to love unselfishly. This set me on a new path. I became aware that nursing qualities of willing service, patience, gentleness, and compassion were expressed all around me as I grew up and that I wanted to live them, too. They’ve woven themselves into every activity I’ve undertaken since then.
For example, I served as a Christian Science nurse for more than 30 years, mostly in the United Kingdom. This work brought me to the United States to work at the Church’s Boston headquarters in the Christian Science Nursing Activities department. Later, I was part of the team that established The Mary Baker Eddy Library. My nursing qualities were put to good use in organizing and caring for its collections–shared with the public for the first time. I served as Executive Manager and President of the Library for six years.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote the groundbreaking book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which explains Christian Science and how it opens the present applicability and healing message of the Bible. Working at the Library and becoming more familiar with Eddy’s remarkable accomplishments as the founder of a religious movement increased my desire to better practice Christian Science in my own life and help others through my healing practice.
Lack of trust in what used to be reliable sources or entities is common today, but I believe that trust in God is a stronger foundation to base our lives upon. The unusual career path I’ve pursued points to this trust. Relying upon a deeper relationship with God naturally helps us support each other, and to better our world. All of us can contribute in this way as we engage in a deeper relationship with our divine source.”

This talk by Patricia Woodard, a Christian Science practitioner and speaker, explores the provable relevance of Christ Jesus’s teachings today.
Ms. Woodard explains the freedom from chronic illness and other struggles that Christian Science discoverer Mary Baker Eddy found though an improved understanding of Jesus’s teachings.
This talk explains a view of God and the universe that will uplift your thought and change your perspective to a spiritual viewpoint that naturally heals.
About Patricia Woodard
Patricia has lived in many parts of the world and prayed with people for divine help and healing. Each new culture and environment has taught her more about God, universal Love, and how all people are made to reflect God’s goodness. More recently, Woodard has been active in taking the healing ministry to those in the prison system in Dallas, Texas, where she lives.
I discovered Christian Science as an adolescent and soon thereafter experienced the complete healing of a broken arm through Christian Science treatment, to the amazement of my mother, a registered nurse.
After working in New York City in the fashion business, I realized I wanted to help children learn how to learn. So I returned to school and got a Masters of Arts in Teaching. This desire to help others and my love of Christian Science impelled me to set time aside to pray for others. While a mother of two children, I became a full-time Christian Science practitioner, and have pursued a lifelong career of learning about God, sharing Truth, and witnessing God’s love for mankind.

Or why you are here? Can you really find peace and happiness? Do you need a change for the better? If so, do you know what is needed to achieve these changes?
Speaker Janet Hegarty left uncertainty behind after finding a spiritual basis for joy. When her mother-in-law gave her a special book, Janet began to see herself in a whole new way.
“Never before had I encountered the idea of God as pure goodness,” she said.
As she studied this book, she began to discover that this same all-good God was the source of what she was and what everyone really is, without exception. This changed Janet’s life profoundly, showing her how the power of divine goodness was at work in her life: It provided solutions to challenges including sickness, dishonesty, and career setbacks, which often seemed like they could shake her foundation and her connection to what’s good.
This power of divine goodness had another practical effect, too, bringing her quick healing of a long-standing food allergy.
The special book that Janet Hegarty’ mother-in-law gave her was the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, which spiritually interprets the Bible in a timeless, practical way.
As an undergraduate, I studied music composition at Washington University in St. Louis. Then, I moved to Chicago, where I earned a master’s degree in music. At about the same time, I was introduced to Christian Science and began finding the answers to my questions about identity, purpose, and health. This has made a huge difference in my life.
For the next several years, I composed and produced original music for theatre productions and film. Later, my husband, Jim, and I had a music production company, producing music for radio, television, and other media.
Throughout this time, I continued to apply the spiritual ideas I was learning to every facet of my life. My growing understanding of the way Christian Science explains existence took the mystery out of living and removed much fear. This new light so changed my life that it stirred in me a desire to help others find spiritual answers. I left the music business in 1994 to enter the full-time Christian Science healing practice, and in 2009 I became a Christian Science teacher.
My life has been transformed from living in fear for my health and uncertainty about the future to feeling secure in the spiritual basis for health and having a joyous expectation of good in the future. This transformation showed me the life-changing power of God’s goodness and the healing that results from understanding our oneness with God. These ideas have been useful to me in my healing work, and I love sharing them in my prison ministry, with interfaith groups, and in the public talks I give on Christian Science.

Looking beyond the brain to find our connectivity with the divine Mind, God, brings healing to mental problems.
One of the interesting developments in the mental healthcare field in the last few decades has been the greater openness by healthcare providers to spiritual solutions. This includes the role of effective prayer in healing. Instead of focusing on the condition, they are increasingly looking at each individual and asking, “What inner resources does this person have to build on?”
You’ll hear several program guests explain how they proved that good mental health has its source in the divine Mind, God, and is our natural state. Therefore, we can challenge mental illness with a deepening conviction that it is without divine authority.

Regardless of the perceived cause of addiction, there is one mainstay that offers true and complete inner fulfillment—spiritual healing.
When someone is struggling with opioid addiction, or another drug addiction, the prospect of finding permanent freedom can seem awfully dim. But many have found that prayer — based on the understanding of divine Love’s unopposable power and the true spiritual nature of each of us — can transform thought and experience. It can break the hold of addictive behavior.
Come and hear how the guests on a rebroadcast from the Christian Science Sentinel Radio Edition proved that a spiritual approach can bring freedom from long-held addictions.

If you have no experience with spirituality or religion, or you’re not even sure what you think about God, can you still pray and be healed?
“Yes. Because prayer and healing are natural to us, and I say this as one who didn’t even grow up in a religious household.
But what I’ve discovered as I’ve studied Christian Science is that a willingness to shift perspectives, to see things in a new, more spiritual way, has an effect—for anyone.
Like in the case of an inmate I worked with. As I shared the basics of Christian Science with him, he said it all sounded great but he was just a bad person. He seemed pretty convinced that healing wasn’t for him. But as we talked about the fact that he wasn’t defined by his past, but by God, his source, who is completely good, I could tell his thought about himself was changing.
And then he wanted more. So he took a copy of the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, back to his cell and started to dive into these books. Six or seven weeks later, I ran into him again and he told me that he’d been healed of a serious illness —just from studying the Bible and Science and Health. His study helped him grasp God and his life in a new way and his disease was cured.
In my lecture, I’ll share more about the fundamentals of effective prayer, as I’ve learned from studying Christian Science, as well as how healing is truly possible for everyone.
Nate is a practitioner of Christian Science healing and in his talk, he will share more about the fundamentals of effective prayer, as he has learned from studying Christian Science, as well as how healing is truly possible for everyone.
Experiencing first-hand the healing power of Love is Nate Frederick’s favorite thing. It’s what makes him tick. Nate studied perennial religion at Hampshire College where he was introduced to Christian Science healing. Although he was enamored with the academic exploration of spirituality, what he truly desired most was to practice spirituality in a tangible way — he wanted to experience God and heal others.
After traveling and hiking extensively in the Himalayas, Nate came to Boston in 2008 to work for the headquarters of the Christian Science church, in Boston. Since then, he has served in many capacities, including launching and producing spiritual and musical podcasts. Nate has shared the Christian Science at jails, rehab centers and interfaith events. He’s also been widely involved in composing, producing and performing music.

Christian Science healer Alex Fischer explains how being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely matter-based — and being open to seeing the world as spiritually based — can result in healing and inner peace. It is about how understanding more clearly our relationship with God, infinite good, will bring healing, harmony, and freedom to our lives.
This lecture, or heart-to-heart sharing, will give you an overview of Christian Science, its key principles, a bit of its history, some examples of healings and some clarifications about typical misconceptions.
Speaker Alex Fischer practiced law in France and in the United States for several years. As a litigation lawyer in France, he used to argue cases in court and did his best to meet clients’ needs. Practicing law was not just a job, it was a passion. In his childhood, he read law books for pleasure and attended court hearings. To Alex, being a lawyer meant precision in thinking and a desire to help others get out of trouble.
But during those legal years, he got more and more interested in Christian Science. At first, he was just impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions. But as he dug deeper, he found a profound spirituality. To him, back then, religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and the letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this deep spirituality, the more he found that it was not about believing in anything. It was about exercising critical thinking in understanding spiritual concepts, which in turn could be applied to one’s life to bring healing.
Gradually, he gave up his law practice and became a full time Christian Science practitioner. Though he is no longer a lawyer he still works to help others get out of trouble, to get out of a sense of limitation, and to find more freedom. But the way he sees it, Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless; to be open to seeing the world as spiritually based and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. It’s about understanding more clearly our relationship with God, infinite good. It is about understanding Christ Jesus’ message in a non-dogmatic way, bringing healing, harmony and freedom to our lives.

Philip Hockley a practitioner of Christian Science healing, shares his life-transforming story. After living for 7 years with a painful spinal injury he was very disheartened. He’d tried every medical and alternative healing method he could find, without relief. Resigned to a life of pain and limitation, he decided to attend a talk on Christian Science and was surprised to find himself leaving the talk healed.
“What happened to me at that lecture was truly transformational,“ he said. “Not only was I healed of all my diseases at that event, but also, more importantly, I was healed of my hardness towards the message of the Bible — telling us of God’s great love for each of us. Christian Science explains the Bible promises so clearly. To me, the greatest of the promises that we can all feel and live with this divine Love, a heavenly Love here and now. I had gone to the lecture with no expectations, but I left with no limitations.”
This talk will be live-streamed; register at cstalks.org/roanoke-lynchburg-hockley. You can also listen on your phone at 301.715.8592, meeting ID 862 2475 8353.
Sponsored by the Christian Science churches in Roanoke and Lynchburg, Virginia.
A new view of God can offer you freedom from whatever seems painful, debilitating, or limiting in your life. Philip Hockley a practitioner of Christian Science healing, shares his experience with the life-transforming effects of God’s love on his life, becoming a healthy man after many years of suffering. Learn how divine Love is available to erase suffering in any of our lives as naturally as the sunrise banishes night:
When most people think about life-changing moments, they may not think of a lecture on Christian Science. That wasn’t why I attended a lecture for the first time; I didn’t expect to walk out a new person. But I found something in that lecture that was indeed life-transforming. Christian Science gave me a new view of God that I’d not had before: a view of God as Love itself, divine Love that loved me fully. I also discovered that this loving God was not the source of my troubles (which were many) but the solution to them. My life began to improve quickly after that and I became a healthy man after many years of suffering.
There’s no question that I was jubilant about the way my life was being transformed. But what impressed me the most was finding out that these kinds of breakthroughs aren’t one-time, personal miracles. God’s love is available to everyone, and there’s even a textbook on Christian Science healing that explains the power of God’s love in our lives: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
What I’ve gone on to learn, and what I’ll share in my lecture, is that the perspective of God and reality that Christian Science opens up is one that offers freedom from whatever in our lives seems painful, debilitating, or limiting. I’ll talk about a 19th-century woman, Mary Baker Eddy, who, after a life-threatening injury, discovered this new view of God for herself and went on to explain her discovery and its Bible-based principles in her book Science and Health. And I’ll share how that discovery is still relevant to our lives today because of what it reveals about God’s great love for each of us and its powerful, life-transforming effects.
This talk will be live-streamed at cstalks.org/alexandria-hockley or via phone at 301.715.8592. Meeting ID 828 3829 4869. Although pre-registration is not required, you can sign up at cstalks.org/alexandria-hockley to receive an email reminder and a link to the YouTube replay afterwards.

One of the interesting developments in the mental healthcare field in the last few decades has been the greater openness by healthcare providers to spiritual solutions.
Instead of focusing on the condition, they are increasingly looking at each individual and asking, “What inner resources does this person have to build on?”
Come and hear how today’s guests on the Christian Science Sentinel’’s audio editions proved that good mental health has its source in the divine Mind, God, and is our natural state. Therefore, we can challenge mental illness with a deepening conviction that it is without divine authority.
Giulia Plum, today’s main guest, looked at mental health issues from two different perspectives—from both the standpoint of having been a licensed psychotherapist for 10 years and now as a full-time practitioner of Christian healing. She answers such questions as:
Three additional guests tell how they were completely healed, through spiritual means alone, of various serious mental illnesses, including manic depression, anxiety attacks, utter despair, and mental breakdowns which precipitated being put in a psychiatric facility.
