“The time for thinkers has come.”

“The time for thinkers has come.”

Ever read that sentence before? It might feel ever so slightly familiar if you have just come from our Home Page. That sentence is on our Home Page cover photo — the first thing you might see.

What does it mean? Where did it come from? Who wrote it?

It means just what it says: Now is the time to think spiritually on all the issues facing us in our challenging world.

Though totally relevant today, this sentence was written over one hundred and fifty years ago and is found in the book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

To get a sense of the context of this phrase, here is a quote from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:

“The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity. Contentment with the past and the cold conventionality of materialism are crumbling away. Ignorance of God is no longer the stepping-stone to faith. The only guarantee of obedience is a right apprehension of Him whom to know aright is Life eternal. Though empires fall, ‘the Lord shall reign forever.'” (page vii:13)
