SUMMARY:In-person event: Healing with joy — discovering the power of Love
DESCRIPTION:At this free talk\, Ann Kneeland\, a practitioner of Christian Science healing\, explains how fear is dissolved\, sickness is cured and difficult relationships are healed through a purely spiritual approach. This healing method is based upon understanding God as divine Love and our nature as the spiritual and perfect expression of our all-good creator. Real-life examples of healing will be explained\, as well as practical\, spiritual ideas which can be used immediately. \n___________________________________________ \nAbout Ann Kneeland\n \n\nGrowing up in a family that loved and practiced Christian Science\, Ann saw how God heals sickness and relationship problems\, meets financial needs\, solves business issues\, and answers life’s questions. In the Christian Science Sunday School\, Ann learned to rely upon the healing ideas in the Bible\, as explained in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, by Mary Baker Eddy. During her school years\, the ideas in these books healed Ann of headaches\, sickness\, a wart\, a rash\, sports injuries\, and academic anxieties. \nAfter college\, Ann took Primary Class instruction to deepen her understanding of God and to learn to heal more systematically. This understanding guided her in a business career and brought healing solutions to difficult issues. When she and her husband began a family\, Christian Science was a daily help in navigating parenthood\, and in caring for their two children’s health and growth. Friends asked for prayerful treatment and were healed. She began advertising her healing practice in the Christian Science Journal in 2009. \nAnn resides in the San Francisco Bay area of California. In her healing practice\, she discovers more about God and our loving relationship to God\, and simultaneously others are healed\, and lives are transformed. Ann has been a Chaplain in the Marin County Jail\, and has shared Christian Science in commercial radio interviews and with teen and interfaith groups. She loves how sharing Christian Science demands listening to God while speaking from the heart. \n\n___________________________________________ \nAt the Lyceum\, there is a free free parking with handicapped spaces\, and on-street parking (free on Sunday). See below for address\, driving directions\, and public transportation details. \nMore information: 703.683.0129 or alexcsrr691@gmail.com \nSponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Alexandria \n\n	Notice: JavaScript is required for this content.

SUMMARY:In-person event: Be Set Free
DESCRIPTION:Whatever seems to stand between us and the full range of purposeful activity that we would like to have in our lives\, the real impediment is not knowing how or where to access our God-given liberty from those things which make us feel vulnerable or victimize or overwhelmed or depressed or anxious. \nSpeaker Nicole Virgil\, a practitioner of Christian Science healing\, will examine liberty  from a Biblical perspective and will include examples of how real people today find their freedom from all kinds of physical\, emotional\, and circumstantial restrictions that are clearly beyond their control so that they may Be Set Free! \nMore information:  703.683.0129\nSponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Alexandria. \nSee below for location address and directions.\n\n_______________________________________________________________________ \nAbout Nicole Virgil\n \nFrom Nicole:\n“My father was a free-lance church organist\, and my parents attended services at almost every different Christian church around New England. Mom was constantly wanting to understand how to practice Christian healing just as Jesus did\, and when she started attending Christian Science church services\, she found what she was looking for. As a result\, I had a wonderful upbringing in Christian Science\, which cultivated within me a deep desire for an intimate relationship with God. \nGrowing up\, I studied Christian Science with my mom and music with my dad\, and found that both studies were helpful to each other. Christian Science healed performance anxiety\, while learning music honed the skills I needed for spiritual practice — skills such as intuition\, listening\, patience and diligence. Throughout my life\, Christian Science and music have always overlapped: After studying opera at music school\, I took my one-woman opera review program (That Can’t Be Opera!) on the road\, educating audiences about opera by singing Mozart\, Puccini\, and Menotti. Christian Science guided me through this entrepreneurial endeavor\, just as it led me to start soloing in churches as a teenager (which is something I still love to do!) — and I eventually married\, started a family with my husband\, and entered the public practice of Christian Science so that I can share the deep and precious truths of the Bible’s healing messages for our daily lives. \nToday I enjoy raising children\, gardening\, soloing in church\, and witnessing the healing effect of Christian Science in all things. ” \n  \n

SUMMARY:In-person event: Finding Trust in a Changing World
DESCRIPTION:How can we stand on a ground that continues to move?\nWith change being such a constant force in life these days\, what can we confidently depend on? \nHear Christian Science speaker and healer Lesley Pitts share examples of how a loving\, divine presence — available to all — can bring the kind of reliable stability and support one can depend on. \n___________________________________________ \nAbout Lesley Pitts\n \n“It was during high school that the direction of my life changed\,” explained Lesley. Although I was raised as a Christian Scientist\, it wasn’t until I experienced the joy of helping someone during a youth club outing that I finally understood what it took to love unselfishly. This set me on a new path. I became aware that nursing qualities of willing service\, patience\, gentleness\, and compassion were expressed all around me as I grew up and that I wanted to live them\, too. They’ve woven themselves into every activity I’ve undertaken since then. \nFor example\, I served as a Christian Science nurse for more than 30 years\, mostly in the United Kingdom. This work brought me to the United States to work at the Church’s Boston headquarters in the Christian Science Nursing Activities department. Later\, I was part of the team that established The Mary Baker Eddy Library. My nursing qualities were put to good use in organizing and caring for its collections–shared with the public for the first time.  I served as Executive Manager and President of the Library for six years. \nMary Baker Eddy wrote the groundbreaking book\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, which explains Christian Science and how it opens the present applicability and healing message of the Bible. Working at the Library and becoming more familiar with Eddy’s remarkable accomplishments as the founder of a religious movement increased my desire to better practice Christian Science in my own life and help others through my healing practice. \nLack of trust in what used to be reliable sources or entities is common today\, but I believe that trust in God is a stronger foundation to base our lives upon. The unusual career path I’ve pursued points to this trust. Relying upon a deeper relationship with God naturally helps us support each other\, and to better our world. All of us can contribute in this way as we engage in a deeper relationship with our divine source.” \n_______________________________________________________________________ \nLimited free parking at The Lyceum\, including limited handicapped spaces. Otherwise\, on-street metered parking or Market Square Garage.\nPublic transportation: Braddock Road or King Street Metro Stations (Blue/Yellow lines); bus routes 30\, 310\, 10A\, 10B\, and King Street Trolley \nMore information:  703.683.0129  or csalexandria.org \nSponsored by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Alexandria\, Virginia.

SUMMARY:In-person event: Humility that “Overcomes the World”
DESCRIPTION:Christ Jesus’ ministry taught and showed the power of God’s love to overcome injustice\, hatred\, and disease\, yet Jesus never took credit. There is great need for healing in the world today. Hear Mark McCurties\, a practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker\, share how Christlike humility can help us meet that demand for healing. \n_______________________________________________________________________ \nAbout Mark McCurties\n \nSays Mark:\n“Ever since I was a little boy\, I’ve had a deep love for the Bible. When I read about men and women in the Bible overcoming hatred\, famine\, war\, physical disease\, and other hardships\, their triumphs inspired me. It didn’t matter what the odds were\, or what conditions they faced\, individuals in the Bible seemed to flourish in adversity based on one common theme\, their deep love for God. \nGrowing up in a Christian Science household\, there was another book I loved to read daily: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. The very purpose of her book is to help unlock and reveal the deeper divine meaning and inspiration of the Bible. Together these two books point to the practical healing and saving power of God and its present availability for all mankind. I knew that someday I wanted to share that healing message with the world. \nAs I grew into adulthood\, experiences in the field of education as a summer camp director\, outdoor educator\, athletics coach\, and resident counselor\, all helped to develop my understanding and practice of Christian Science. While working with young people\, I had multiple opportunities to witness God’s healing power. These examples proved to me that the healing power of Christ is just as alive and relevant today as for the men and women of the Bible. In 2010\, with a desire to focus solely on healing through prayer\, I went into the full-time public practice of Christian Science.” \n \n______________________________________________________________________ \nPublic transportation: Bus routes: 30\, 31\, 10A\,10B\, King Street Trolley; nearest Metrorail stations Braddock Road and King Street-Old Town stations (Blue/Yellow lines) \nParking: limited free parking in on-site lot; on-street metered parking; $5 parking at Market Square Garage (0.4 miles/5 blocks away).
