SUMMARY:In-person event: Finding Trust in a Changing World
DESCRIPTION:How can we stand on a ground that continues to move?\nWith change being such a constant force in life these days\, what can we confidently depend on? \nHear Christian Science speaker and healer Lesley Ruth Pitts share examples of how a loving\, divine presence — available to all — can bring the kind of reliable stability and support one can depend on. \n___________________________________________ \nAbout Lesley Pitts\n \n“It was during high school that the direction of my life changed\,” explained Lesley. Although I was raised as a Christian Scientist\, it wasn’t until I experienced the joy of helping someone during a youth club outing that I finally understood what it took to love unselfishly. This set me on a new path. I became aware that nursing qualities of willing service\, patience\, gentleness\, and compassion were expressed all around me as I grew up and that I wanted to live them\, too. They’ve woven themselves into every activity I’ve undertaken since then. \nFor example\, I served as a Christian Science nurse for more than 30 years\, mostly in the United Kingdom. This work brought me to the United States to work at the Church’s Boston headquarters in the Christian Science Nursing Activities department. Later\, I was part of the team that established The Mary Baker Eddy Library. My nursing qualities were put to good use in organizing and caring for its collections–shared with the public for the first time.  I served as Executive Manager and President of the Library for six years. \nMary Baker Eddy wrote the groundbreaking book\, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, which explains Christian Science and how it opens the present applicability and healing message of the Bible. Working at the Library and becoming more familiar with Eddy’s remarkable accomplishments as the founder of a religious movement increased my desire to better practice Christian Science in my own life and help others through my healing practice. \nLack of trust in what used to be reliable sources or entities is common today\, but I believe that trust in God is a stronger foundation to base our lives upon. The unusual career path I’ve pursued points to this trust. Relying upon a deeper relationship with God naturally helps us support each other\, and to better our world. All of us can contribute in this way as we engage in a deeper relationship with our divine source.” \nChildren are welcome.\nParking: on-street parking\, metered on Connecticut Avenue\, free on residential side streets. \nMore information:  202.363.3853  or 6thcschurchdc@gmail.com \nSponsored by Sixth Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Washington \nSee below for location address and directions.

SUMMARY:In-person event: How spiritual perception brings healing
DESCRIPTION:This talk is for people who feel that they are stuck in a limited\, material world\, with limited prospects\, limited resources\, and limited health. In contrast to those feelings of limitation\, we are children of God and God is spiritual\, limitless. Speaker Alexandre Fischer\, a practitioner of Christian Science healing from Pau\, France\, explains that by understanding more clearly our relationship with God\, infinite good\, we can learn to drop feelings of limitation\, end fear\, and see a way forward.\n_______________________________________________________________________ \nAbout Alexandre Fischer\n \nFrom Alexandre:\n“Practicing litigation law in France and the United States for several years informed Alex’s practice of Christian Science. The law was not just his job\, he says\, it was his passion. To Alex\, being a good lawyer meant exercising the ability to think precisely and feeling a desire to help others get out of trouble. \nDuring his years as a lawyer\, his interest in Christian Science grew. At first\, he was impressed by its remarkable healings and resolutions\, but as he dug deeper\, he found a profound spirituality. He used to believe that religion and spirituality meant accepting a system of beliefs and letting go of discernment and critical thinking. But the more he studied and practiced this spirituality\, the more he found that one’s relationship with God requires critical thinking to understand spiritual concepts. These concepts can in turn be applied to one’s life to bring healing. \nGradually\, he gave up his law practice to become a full-time Christian Science practitioner. Alex still works to help others “get out of trouble\,” that is\, to overcome a sense of limitation and to find freedom. \nAlex discovered that Christian Science is not just about feeling better or fixing problems. It’s about being willing to challenge one’s world view as entirely molecule-based and soulless\, to be open to see the world as spiritually-based and experience how this change in perspective brings inner peace and healing. Christian Science helps us understand our relationship with God\, infinite good\, more clearly. Its teachings help us see Christ Jesus’ message in a non-dogmatic way\, bringing healing\, harmony and freedom to our life. \nThrough healing and lecturing\, Alex works to enable others to find this same freedom.” \n____________________________________________________________________ \nThis free talk is the first of a two-part series on the broader topic of “Learning to trust everything to God”.  The second in the series will be on Sunday\, October 6\, as Mark McCurties speaks on “Humility that overcomes the world“. \nMore information: 6thcschurchdc@gmail.com \nSponsored by Sixth Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Washington\, D.C.
