Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: Therefore, the world knoweth us not because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doeth not yet appear what we shall be: But we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; For we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifeth himself, even as he is pure. (1st John 3)
What is Christian Science?
Christian Science is the Science of Being. Christian Science is explained in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. Christian Science is the healing Christ-Truth to this age, and it is transforming our assumptions about life and existence. It answers Pontius Pilate's question, "What is Truth?"
Science and Health discusses this Biblically-based proposition:
The Scriptures imply that God is All-in-all. From this it follows that nothing possesses reality nor existence except the divine Mind and His ideas. The Scriptures also declare that God is Spirit. Therefore in Spirit all is harmony, and there can be no discord; all is Life, and there is no death. Everything in God’s universe expresses Him.
To grasp the reality and order of being in its Science, you must begin by reckoning God as the divine Principle of all that really is. Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, combine as one, — and are the Scriptural names for God. All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows.
Man, (meaning all men and women) reflects or expresses God. In Genesis we read, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. …And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.
It is this divine life that is yours by reflection. Evil is unreal just as mathematical errors are unreal. Sin, loss, and lack will cease to operate as reality in your experience as you learn that "in Him we live, and move, and have our being... For we are also his offspring.
For instance, a masterpiece of art may be obscured by accumulated grime, but when it is understood that the grime is not a part of the painting, and the grime is removed, the radiant reality of the original image is revealed in all its beauty and perfection. As St. Paul writes in 1st Corinthians, "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." In reality each of us is an expression of God. He is your Maker. And you are His masterpiece.
